This webinar is dedicated to improving public perception of kinship, foster, and adoptive caregivers and their children and youth. Too often, media portrayals of this population – whether in the news, TV or movies – are negative. We want to change the messaging around these issues and the language used.
This webinar covers:
- a brief analysis of current media coverage
- tips and tools advocates can use to shape media and public messages in their communities
- information about how language matters in discussions about foster care, adoption, and kinship care
- templates and examples of positive coverage
Presented by NACAC staff members Mary Boo and Kim Stevens; Jean Fiorito, National Foster Parent Association; and Jaia Lent, Generations United. 2016. Originally created as part of the Advocates for Families First collaboration of NACAC, NFPA, and Generations United.
