Frequently Asked Questions about the Conference

What is Hartford's weather like in August?

High temperatures are likely to be in the 70s and 80s.

Presenting

Can I present at the 2010 conference?

The sessions have already been selected, but if you'd like information about presenting at future conferences, read the Call for Proposals section.

Registration

Can I register on-site?

Yes, but please register in advance if at all possible. Pre-registration numbers help us make room assignments and order materials.

Conference

Will there be snacks during breaks?

To keep registration costs down, we do not offer any snacks or provide coffee before the morning sessions. Beverages will be provided at morning and afternoon breaks. Attendees can also eat light snacks at the Thursday night reception, and enjoy a sit-down luncheon on Saturday.

Can I schedule a special meeting during the conference?

Check with NACAC for room availability between now and June 1. We assign rooms on a first-come, first-served basis.

How do I get messages to attendees?

We will have a message board in the registration area; attendees can also leave messages at the individual’s hotel.

Do both hotels have pools?

Yes, for registered guests.

Program for Children and Youth

Does the program for children and youth extend into the evenings?

No, it closes 15 to 30 minutes after each day's workshops. Children and youth are welcome to come with parents to Thursday's reception.

Can I bring my child to a workshop or institute?

Because children can be disruptive to presenters and participants, please do not bring them to the conference sessions.

Exhibits/Advertising

How do I obtain information to exhibit or advertise at the conference?

You can download information and applicaton forms here.

Is space limited in the exhibit hall?

Yes, reservations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

Funding

Are there scholarships available for the conference?

NACAC will have a limited number of scholarships available for parent group leaders who have not attended an annual NACAC conference before. Visit www.nacac.org to learn more.

Academic Accreditation

What is the difference between a CEU and a certificate of attendance?

A CEU is a unit of continuing education recorded on a transcript at a college or university. Employees in many disciplines -- social work, nursing, etc. -- need CEUs to stay licensed. A certificate of attendance simply says you were at the conference for a certain number of hours (often adequate for parent training requirements). Check with your agency to see if you need CEUs or a certificate of attendance.

Other

What is the conference dress code?

Casual (slacks, jeans). Since meeting rooms vary in temperature, we recommend that you dress in layers or bring a sweater.
