Frequently Asked Questions about the Conference

Presenting

Can I present at the conference?

It's too late to submit a proposal for the 2008 conference, but you can submit a proposal for the 2009 conference. If you'd like to receive information about presenting at future conferences, contact Mary McGowan at marymmcgowan@nacac.org or 651-644-3036 for more information.

Registration

When I can I register?

Now. Registration materials are available here on the web site. To request a printed registration booklet, send an e-mail to info@nacac.org.

Can I register on site?

On-site registration is available, but please register in advance if at all possible. Pre-registration numbers determine room assignments and material preparation.

If I am a conference exhibitor, do I also need to register for the conference?

Yes, if you would like to attend sessions and the Awards luncheon.

Exhibits

How do I obtain information to exhibit at the conference?

Contact NACAC to request an exhibit hall application packet.

Is space limited in the exhibit hall?

Yes, reservations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

Funding

Are there scholarships available for the conference?

NACAC has a limited number of scholarships available for parent group members who not attended previous conferences. Please contact NACAC at 651-644-3036 or info@nacac.org for more information.

Ottawa/Hotels

What is Ottawa’s weather like in July?

The average temperature is 26ºC/78ºF degrees.

Do the Westin Ottawa and Les Suites Hotels have swimming pools?

Yes, both hotels have indoor pools for registered guests.

Other

What is the conference dress code?

Casual (slacks, jeans). Since meeting rooms vary in temperature, we recommend that you dress in layers or bring a sweater.

What is the difference between a CEU and a certificate of attendance?

A CEU is a unit of continuing education recorded on a transcript at a college or university. Employees in many disciplines—social work, nursing, etc.—need CEUs to stay licensed. A certificate of attendance simply says you were at the conference for a certain number of hours (often adequate for parent training requirements). Check with your agency to see if you need CEUs or a certificate of attendance.

Will there be snacks during breaks?

To keep registration costs down, we do not offer snacks. Coffee is provided before the morning sessions, and cold beverages are provided at morning and afternoon breaks. Attendees can also eat light snacks at the Thursday night reception, and enjoy a sit-down luncheon on Saturday. At other times, try the Rideau Centre food court or other great restaurants nearby.

Can I schedule a special meeting during the conference?

Check with NACAC for room availability before June 15. We assign rooms on a first-come, first-served basis.

How do I get messages to other attendees?

We will have a message board in the conference registration area, and attendees can also leave messages at the hotel where the party is staying.

Children

Does childcare extend into the evenings?

Childcare closes 30 minutes after the end of each day’s sessions, but children are welcome to come with their parents to the NACAC-sponsored reception on Thursday evening.

Can I bring my child to a workshop or institute?

Because children can be disruptive to presenters and participants, please do not bring them to the conference sessions.
