Parent Support Coordinator
NACAC is looking for a full-time parent support coordinator (salary $48,000 to $52,000, depending on experience) to spearhead efforts aimed at helping and developing adoptive and foster parent support groups around the U.S. and Canada. This position requires extensive travel around North America.
The parent support coordinator will be responsible for organizing new adoptive parent support groups, providing training and technical assistance to new and existing groups, developing resources for group leaders, and coordinating other activities to support the development of post-permanency support.
Please note that we are open to applicants from around North America, although we strongly prefer a candidate who will be able to work from the NACAC office is Saint Paul, Minnesota. Applicants who would like to work from elsewhere should indicate in their cover letter how they will ensure successful operation of this work from a distance.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide on-site training to and technical assistance to parent group leaders, including organizing conferences for group leaders as well as other site visits to groups

Administer mini-grant programs for support groups, associations, and public agencies, including developing and reviewing applications, providing assistance to leaders during the grant, and monitoring outcomes of grants awarded
- Answer questions from parents and professionals about post-adoption support, parent group development, etc., and address inquiries about training, best practices, and publications related to parent support

Help start and enhance adoptive parent groups in major metropolitan and underserved areas across the U.S.

Compile and share accurate, user-friendly articles, newsletters, and other resources for parents and group leaders

Manage NACAC’s parent group grants, including coordinating with funders, tracking activities and outcomes, and preparing grant reports
Qualifications:
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of parent support groups/peer support and group development; extensive knowledge of the core issues and special needs in adoption, as well as foster care, kinship care, child welfare, and family dynamics
- Skills: Exemplary communication skills, including the ability to conduct training and work with leaders one-on-one; excellent organizational skills; ability to work with diverse populations, including communities of color & LGBT families
- Abilities: Ability to coordinate multiple projects concurrently and to work both independently and collaboratively with a team; ability to plan ahead and meet deadlines; attention to detail; ability to travel around North America
- Experience/ Education: At least five years of experience in adoption/foster care, including experience providing support to adoptive families and developing groups or community organizing; formal education in social services field (such as social work) preferred but not required
